Is there a way to fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2? How do you fast travel in Red Dead Redemption? If you want to know the answer, then you just need to follow this short article.
How to unlock fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2
Fast travel won't be available to you when you start Chapter 2, and has to be unlocked by progressing through the story, and then unlocking a few camp upgrades. First, play through to mission Money Lending and Other Sins. Hand in your first debt, and you'll learn about the Ledger, allowing you to upgrade your camp. You want to specifically upgrade Lodgings. Once you have upgraded it once, you'll have the option to upgrade Arthur's tent. Do so, and you'll unlock fast travel.
Of course, it isn't a simple case of selecting somewhere on the map and going there. You have to go to Arthur's tent - specifically, round the back - and view the map. Then, you select a location you've been to before, and you'll appear there, with your main horse, after a transition sequence. What this means is, even with this unlocked, you cannot decide to jump from somewhere out in the wilderness to another destination - you still have to do that at a camp.
To travel by rail, you only need to find a post office, where you can purchase train tickets. You can purchase a train ticket to any train station in the game, but you need to have already visited it to fast travel to it via this method.
As for stagecoaches, you’ve got a lot more freedom. Head to the stagecoach marker on the map and interact with the sign, and you can immediately be transported to any city, town, or village that you’ve already visited. Prices will obviously vary for the distance that you’re travelling, with both stagecoaches and rail.
If you want to go for the immersion-breaking method of fast travel, head to the Van der Linde camp and to the back of Dutch’s quarters. There you’ll find a ledger and the option to contribute to the camp. Open the ledger and look under the Lodging section. Under Next in Line it will say, “Arthur wants a map to help plan journeys.” This upgrade costs $325 but will put a fast-travel map at the back of Arthur’s quarters. You can only travel to previously discovered locations, though.
