Grinding Gears is planning to keep up the usual quarter schedule for expansions throughout the year, releasing four expansions--versions 3.10.0 through to 3.13.0--throughout the year.
In a world that’s seemingly been burned by Diablo, Path of Exile has only moved from strength to strength. Nearly all the Steam reviews of Path of Exile have some point of comparison to its biggest competitor, Diablo 3, with most of those comments praising it as being superior in every way. It’s a robust, addictive, deeply complex action role-playing game that offers hundreds of hours of content for the measly price of free. It’s no wonder Path of Exile has been able to retain its audience since its release back in 2013 considering the quarterly updates and expansions it receives every year. Despite the announcement of a sequel, it looks like those expansions won’t be slowing down any time soon.
The first expansion, 3.10.0, will "probably" be detailed late next month, with reports early last year suggesting it'll likely release in March. 3.11.0, 3.12.0 and 3.13.0 will then follow later in the year. "The timing of the expansions may vary by a week or two from last year's ones," the update reads, "as we work around various holidays/events and make sure that the bigger ones have enough time to be fully tested."

If you're a fan, or even if you're not, you know that Grinding Gear are up to their knees in Path of Exile 2 development, which they aptly refer to as Path of Exile 4.0.0, much of it being the stuff we weren't treated to at this year's ExileCon. The dev stopped short of giving an exact date on when to expect more Path of Exile 2 stuff, but they did say it will probably be middle of the year, possibly even E3.
“That 4.0.0 expansion is going to take on Diablo 4, as far as we’re concerned.” Wilson tells us. “It’s the next generation of action-RPGs and represents a really big upgrade to Path of Exile. And so, we’ll be teasing that at Exilecon, and players will get some hands-on time with a very early build of it, which should be really exciting.”
Path of Exile 2 will include the campaign from the original game upon release, which could be one of the reasons why the devs are continuously working on expanding the game. The sequel is expected to drop on PS5, Xbox One, and PC.
