More than a year ago in a live stream, Ubisoft promised that Rainbow Six Siege servers would go live in South Africa. They were working on the information that Microsoft’s Azure datacentres would soon be deployed in the region, but that took a little longer than expected. Then, once they were finally available, the Azure datacentres were limited; used primarily for business cases.
 
On 11 November 2019, Ubisoft rolled out the South African “test server” for Siege. This test server was PC only and was used to analyse the game’s environment in SA. Since then, Shifting Tides was also added to the server for testing. These test servers are now offline as Ubisoft analyses the tests and performance results all gathered during the early phase.
 
But today, Siege fans finally get what was promised at SI 2018 when the South African servers popped online. At time of writing, Ubisoft has only pushed the Xbox servers live. The developer will be looking to roll out PC and PS4 servers in the near future if there are no issues with the Xbox launch, according to the official post.
 
These servers come as a sigh of relief to the community who have been begging for local support since the game’s launch back in 2015. Ubisoft rolled out test servers for the game back in November on PC where they conducted extensive testing to see if local implementation was a viable option. Last week there was a bit of confusion after a local Ubisoft representative emailed us with the news that the servers were going live. However, that was not the case.
