“In a previous version of our 2020 Roadmap, we had shown you that the Steel Dawn questline was planned to arrive in the Fall, followed by the continuation of the story with Fractured Steel in Winter,” Bethesda said. “After further discussion, we’ve decided that we would like the Brotherhood’s return to Appalachia to be a larger moment for the game. As a result, we are combining Steel Dawn and Fractured Steel so that you have more story quests to dig into at once. We'll have more details to share about what you can expect from these new adventures in the coming weeks.”
 
In the winter, the Brotherhood of Steel returns in large new story called Fracture Steel. As the heavily armored warriors march into the wasteland, you'll run into new NPCs who will deliver new quests and potentially become your companions. This update also adds new repeatable missions, the ability to build instanced interiors in your shelter, and perk loads.
 
2020 sees familiar events like Fasnacht and Meat Week making their annual return to Fallout 76, on top of new features like 76 Seasons, which players can progress through special challenges for plentiful rewards, including Atom Bundles, Perk Card packs, one-of-a-kind cosmetics and more! Then, later this year, prepare for One Wasteland for All! This update makes exploring Appalachia together easier than ever thanks to rebalanced combat and loot that scales to every player – regardless of their level! Things then shake up in West Virginia this winter as The Brotherhood of Steel returns to the scene in Fractured Steel, introducing new quests, companions, NPCs and more to Fallout 76!
 
Not that we have too many specifics right now, mind. A few new quests and NPCs are a given, as is the opportunity to kit out with some proper Brotherhood-themed outfits and guns. There's also a brief peek at what appears to be the Brotherhood's headquarters in Appalachia. No giant airship, I'm afraid - we're too early in the timeline for that kind of nonsense.
 
In the winter, the Brotherhood of Steel will return in Fractured Steel. This will be a Wastelanders-style expansion pack that adds a new faction, quests, and NPCs to deal with. The Brotherhood of Steel have been present in every Fallout game to date; in the early days of Fallout 76, players could discover that they had entered the region, but had all died in the attempt to stop the Scorched.
