What is the rule of Gridiron?
1. Gridiron is 4-on-4.
2. The standard Rocket League ball has been replaced with an American football.
3. Touching the ball attaches it to the roof of your car. In Spike Rush, the ball would attach to wherever your car made contact, but in Gridiron it will always attach on your roof.
4. If any player touches the ball, that player becomes the ball carrier, setting up the opportunity for hand-offs to teammates or steals by the other team.
5. The carrier can single jump, but double jumping drops the ball. You can also pass the ball by dodging or flipping.
6. Each goal is 3 or 7 points: 7 points are awarded if the ball is attached to a player when entering the opponent's goal, and 3 points are awarded if the ball is passed in or if the ball is loose. All own-goals are worth 3 points, whether the ball is attached or loose.
7. Stay in bounds! You'll fumble the ball if you cross the line marked on the Arena wall.
 
Rocket League - How To Play Gridiron Football

If players 'run' the ball into the endzone their team will be reward with 7 points. If they throw the ball, or if the ball freely goes into the endzone without being attached to a car, it will count as a field goal for 3 points.
 
How to Pass in Gridiron
Dodging, by pressing A to jump and A again while pointing the analog stick in any direction, is how you pass. Side dodge to perform a spiral pass, sending it far down field hopefully toward your teammates. Front or back flipping is a short pass, eseentially dropping the ball with a bit of momentum. This can be handy when near the goal, either to toss it in over some opponents or to a nearby teammate for a quick touchdown. On defense you need to try to steal the ball by running into opponents, or blocking their shots and passes. Own goals score 3 points, so sometimes it’s better to steal the ball and score the goal yourself, rather than let the team score a full touchdown. But if you can get the ball out of your goal that’s clearly better. Just don’t go out of bounds, as shown by the bright line along the walls, or you will fumble.
