When players are playing Destiny 2, they expect to take part in challenges or raids for earning XP or rewards. The Root of Nightmares raid is coming for players in Destiny 2. How to Finish The Illuminated Torment Challenge

To complete the Illuminated Torment challenge, players can only defeat Tormentors while they have the Field of Light buff. Luckily, there are several ways to complete this challenge efficiently.

 

Planting The Seeds

First and foremost, players should decide on one person to run and plant the seeds as one normally would for the encounter while the rest are on enemy control. To ensure the team doesn't fail from the wipe mechanic, enemy control players should watch for two Psions that spawn in various areas, and defeating both Psions will trigger a Tormentor to appear.

 

Killing a Tormentor increases the countdown timer by thirty seconds, giving the runner plenty of time to plant the seeds to complete the encounter. Usually, the enemy control players would all group up and defeat the Tormentor together. However, to complete the Illuminated Torment challenge, the player can only beat the Tormentor while having the Field of Light buff. 

 

How to Defeat the Tormentor in the Illuminated Torment Challenge

The best way to complete this Challenge is basically how you’ll likely already be running the encounter. Assign one person to build the node network, two players to handle the Psions, and three for clearing enemies and getting the Field of Light buff.

 

The idea is that three player will hang around the Field of Light buff and wait for the node network builder to refresh it. It doesn’t have to be all three getting the buff each time. In fact, it can help to have one player go off, weaken the Tormentor, and then get the next buff refresh while the other two finish off the Tormentor.

 

If things get a bit tight and the only person with the buff is the node builder and the Tormentor must die immediately, just get them to nuke the enemy. Remember you can also keep a Tormentor alive and then defeat it when the next phase begins for additional time.

 

Make sure someone on your team calls out where the Tormentor is located, as the Field of Light buff holders will only have 15 seconds to burn through this boss. Because of this, I recommend using burst damage weapons like rockets, sniper rifles, or linear fusion rifles. Izanagi’s Burden is especially good at killing Tormentors since it can consistently hit their critical points. You will need to do this for every Tormentor throughout this encounter if you want to complete the Illuminated Torment challenge.

 

The biggest challenge is ensuring that someone without the buff doesn’t accidentally kill one of these enemies. To mitigate these chances, make sure to only have those with the Field of Light buff shoot enemies around the Tormentor when it spawns. What my team did is we would get the Tormentors weak and then quickly go get the buff to ensure we could slay them within the time limit. Only the final blow needs to be done by someone with the buff, but anyone can damage them. So if you’re struggling trying getting their health low before killing them while holding the buff.
