WOW Burning Crusade Classic is introducing a new character ‘clone’ service. You may purchase this service only once per WoW character. Once you do, that hero will be allowed to venture forth into Burning Crusade Classic while their copy continues their original adventure on a Classic Era realm.

 
 

What is role Copy?
The character copy service will create a copy based on the character status before the launch of "Burning Crusade Classic", and the characters in "World of Warcraft: Classic" will be automatically copied to the corresponding classic period server. This service will provide two options: you can choose to activate a character copy in the "Burning Crusade: Classic" expansion for free and continue the progress of the expansion, or start a character copy on the server for free in the classic period and maintain it in the classic version. In addition, you can also pay to activate role copies in both servers at the same time.
 
What Happens with Realms?
Here’s how it works….  Existing realms will patch with the new Burning Crusade Classic content. If you choose to experience all of the new content, everything for your character remains the same including your realm, guild, and more — but you’ll have access to the Burning Crusade Classic and all the updates that come with it.
 
If you choose to have a character remain in WoW Classic, it will be available to play on a new Classic Era realm. These new realms are available as a new game client in the Battle.net desktop app.  Friends from your original realm who also choose to play on the Classic Era realm will join you on the same realm. Your friends list will continue to be available no matter where you end up.
 
Realm names will remain the same for both Burning Crusade Classic and Classic Era realms and player characters will exist as they are before the pre-expansion patch on both era types.
 
How to clone a character?
For players who want to play a character in both Burning Crusade Classic and World of Warcraft Classic, we have a new optional service we call “Character Clone.” This optional service will only become available on a character after you have made a choice for that character in another game. For Thuata, shown below, she was unlocked in Burning Crusade Classic. Upon installing and logging into the other game, in this case, World of Warcraft Classic, you’ll see Thuata listed and is greyed out. The text under her name now reads as, “Clone Available.” A Clone icon will appear next to Thuata’s name as shown below. A tip will appear on mouse-over of the Clone icon. If you click the Clone icon, a confirmation window with more information will appear. It shows the “cloned” date of the character which includes all progress on the character up to that date. Clicking “Accept will take you to the store screen which will allow you to purchase the Character Clone service. Upon completing the transaction, Thuata is ready to play.
